Andy Shmushkin is a folk singer for the 21st century, and then some.
Like his troubadouric contemporaries (John Mayer, Howie Day, Dave Matthews, etc.), Shmushkin wears his middle-of-the-road pop sensibilities on his sleeve. He's not afraid to admit a fondness for oft-scorned singer-songwriters like James Taylor, Billy Joel, and even Dan Fogleberg, but what really sets him apart (aside from the stylin' moustache) is that, well, he swears like a sailor.
Indeed, Shmushkin doesn't just have a foul mouth. He has a very sexy mind as well.
This combination of a
sweet corporate musical sensibility and the colorful way Shmushkin has of
expressing himself, adds up to an entirely new voice in folk music. At once
sacred and profane. Brash and intimate. Fresh and entirely familiar.
In short, THE NEXT BIG THING.
Of course, as with all visionaries, Shmushkin has encountered more than his share of hatred and intolerance.
The Anti-Shmushkinites (as they choose to call themselves) have seized upon Shmushkin and his music as a target for their rage and, in so doing, have only managed to make Shmushkin more powerful than they could ever imagine.
Just one look at the sort of people who find Shmushkin threatening is all it takes to inspire most fair-minded consumers to give Shmushkin the benefit of the doubt. Basically, with enemies like the Anti-Shmushkinites, Shmushkin must be alright.
We at Team Shmushkin generally choose not to respond to the slanderous accusations levelled at our client by the anti-Shmushkinites but Shmushkin does want us to say that having lots of sex before one is 18 does not really count as statutory rape on the part of the seventeen, sixteen or even fifteen or fourteen year-old boy precocious enough to seduce women who are in their twenties, thirtes, forties, and fifties. Even if it is technically considered statutory rape in some states, it still seems unfair to blame the "victim" after all of these years. Shmushkin makes no secret of the fact that he had a very sexually active adolescence but he is no rapist, statutory or otherwise. If he were, he could never have worked as long as he did for Barely Legal magazine as a chaperone for the porn models. A position which, we are sure you will agree, requires nerves of steel and a strong sense of what is and what isn't appropriate behavior. If the Anti-Shmushkinites want to call our client a pornographer and a serial statutory rapist, so be it, but we know that once all the facts are out people will see that Andy Shmushkin is not just a great singer-songwriter, but also a model citizen, and a perfect gentleman
